May give you some insight into why n-Track isn't working (yet?) on your tablet. There is also some discussion about the required USB OTG cable. The ones listed as non-working don't support USB Host Mode. There are a couple of tables near the bottom that list working and non-working tablets. Select "Read More" and then follow the link for tested devices and more info. Look for that developer's app called "USB Audio Recorder PRO". Go to the Google Play Store and search on the Audio Evolution Mobile DAW. So, for me, the segmented pricing worked. $6.71 I don't need to spend, but would have had to if the app was just full-priced, all extensions installed and enabled. I have a MIDI keyboard, but it's not leaving my home studio, so I have no need for a mobile interface to it. If you have a MIDI keyboard that you want to connect and play as a virtual instrument, that'll cost you another $7. I think the AE devs have done a really good job of segmenting the cost of the app. In many cases, an app will be useless to barely usable without a bunch of in-app purchases. LMMS is an open-source and cross-platform audio editing software. However, there are some other digital music production apps you can check out. Filter by these if you want a narrower list of alternatives or looking for a specific functionality of GarageBand. GarageBand alternatives are mainly Music Production Apps but may also be Audio Editors or Digital Audio Workstations. My new Tascam i/f will be here tomorrow, so it may be sometime Thursday or Friday (June 11-12) before I can test the AE DAW and audio driver with my 44VSL and my Nexus 10 tablet. These are the most recommended Windows alternatives for GarageBand you can opt for. Other interesting free Android alternatives to GarageBand are FamiStudio, Bandlab, Music Maker Jam and MusicBoard. The Audio Evolution driver requires a Class-Compliant interface, so no device driver required. It gets about 15hrs battery life, it’s amazingly fast, even for video/photo editing, it’s small/light and is way better than using a tablet with a keyboard.I bought the Audio Evolution DAW, primarily because the developers: a) have developed their own hardware-level I/O driver and b) the devs own PreSonus AudioBox 22VSL and 1818VSL i/fs and have validated the 44VSL (which I own and am replacing with a Tascam US16x8 for SONAR). I’m not at all a Mac guy but earlier this year I bought a refurbished MacBook Air M1 for a great price and it’s replaced my tablet for everything outside of the house where I don’t want to bring a larger laptop. There are some really good reviews on YT that are helpful for deciding which would be the best fit for you. I have an iRig HD 2, I use it with my Desktop or my laptop. The one thing that Android really sucks at is music so if you ever want to use the tablet with an audio interface like the iRigHD2 and something like Amplitube, then you have to go iPad Well, there is the brig UA and HD-A but there more expensive and/or seem to not work quite as well. Samsung tablets are great and probably offer better value than iPad, esp if you want/need a stylus and Android should have even better windows integration with windows 11 as well. I love my Samsung Galaxy tab S6 Lite, the only thing that’s really sub optimal with it is the screen but I don’t use it outside and I don’t want to spend the extra money for the better screen For android in general, there are still some apps (like Facebook) that don’t properly support tablets. Heres a video (jump to the minute 12:20) of a guy who made a sick daw app talking about that problem and how its the reason theyre not making an Android version. Am I better off with an iPad or Android, or does it matter? Theres an inherent problem with music making tools in Android, and its the fact that latency is very inconsistent between devices and most of them have really high latency. I’m thinking about getting a tablet for hobbies.
